Connection Issues
Use this guide when you or your players can’t connect to your game server.
Troubleshooting Steps
Section titled “Troubleshooting Steps”Step 1. Is the server running?
Section titled “Step 1. Is the server running?”Check the control panel:
- If stopped → Click Start and wait 60 seconds
- If running → Continue to Step 2
Step 2. Is the server crash looping?
Section titled “Step 2. Is the server crash looping?”If the server stays running for more than 60 seconds, continue to Step 3.
Step 3. Verify IP and port
Section titled “Step 3. Verify IP and port”- Open your control panel
- Find your server’s IP address and port
- Ensure you’re using the correct format:
IP:PORT(e.g.,192.168.1.1:25565)
Common mistakes:
- Using
localhostor127.0.0.1(only works on the server itself) - Missing the port number
- Using the wrong port (check for game-specific ports below)
Step 4. Check for version mismatch
Section titled “Step 4. Check for version mismatch”If you see errors like “Outdated server” or “Incompatible client”:
- Your game client version doesn’t match the server
- See Version Mismatch for fixes
Step 5. Test from a different network
Section titled “Step 5. Test from a different network”Try connecting from:
- A mobile hotspot
- A VPN
- A different location
If it works from another network → Your ISP or local firewall is blocking the connection.
Solutions:
- Check your router/firewall settings
- Contact your ISP about blocked gaming ports
- Try a VPN service
Step 6. Check the status page
Section titled “Step 6. Check the status page”Visit status.mambahost.com to check for:
- Ongoing maintenance
- Network issues
- DDoS mitigation events
Common Error Messages

Connection timed out | Network issue or firewall blocking | Test from different network, check firewall |
Server is full | Max player limit reached | Wait for a slot or increase maxplayers |

Failed to verify username | Authentication issue (Minecraft) | Check online-mode setting in server.properties |
You are banned | IP or account banned | Check your ban list or appeal |
